Nevada transportation officials said the corridor could be closed for three to four days while they scramble to repair eroded pavement.Ī detour added about 50 miles to the trip between the two major cities. Looking forward to using Detours again in the future.LAS VEGAS - Heavy rains and flash flooding throughout the Southwest washed away portions of heavily used Interstate 15 in Nevada, prompting state officials on Tuesday to close a nearly 50-mile stretch of the major trucking artery that runs between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. Jimmy described their tour to Zion National Park, and this is now on my "to do" list, the next time we visit Vegas. I wish we had more time in Vegas to schedule one of the other tours offered by Detours. Having so many things cancelled this year do to COVID, this was such a special day to be able to take a tour in the U.S. The South Rim is approximately a 4 to 5 hours drive in each direction, but with many interesting stops along the way, as well as our interesting and fun conversations with Jimmy Vegas, the drive was very enjoyable. We had plenty of time to read and learn the information provided on the Grand Canyon, as well as shop for souvenirs. We also stopped at Bright Angel Lodge, Lookout Studio, El Tovar Hotel and the Hopi House, etc. We spent the afternoon viewing the Grand Canyon with different stops along the trailhead, and having our delicious boxed lunch with an unbelievable view. He was born and raised in Vegas, and has so many interesting stories to tell. He kept us entertained all day with both his personality as well as his knowledge on basically all things travel. Jimmy was so knowledgeable on all things Vegas as well a travel in general. We did all as planned, however felt very lucky to also get to stop at the Hoover Dam, as it had been closed for months due to COVID, and had only opened two days before our tour. The original plan was to drive to the South Rim after stopping at the special town of Williams along the old Route 66 and spend the afternoon at the South Rim, having a boxed lunch with an amazing view of the Grand Canyon. Since travel has been impacted this year due to COVID-19, Detours and our guide Jimmy were so happy to begin offering tours again, and went out of their way to make sure we all felt very safe with COVID protocols in place. We were a party of 4 persons who did a private tour to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon using Detours of Nevada with Jimmy Vegas as our guide. If we come back to this area again, we will definitely tour with them, and I would recommend anyone else visiting this area to do so as well. It was by far the best tour we’ve been on. Then, on the way back we stopped by the Hoover Dam for pics and the stopped and ate dinner in Boulder City. We took our time at the West Rim and got all of the photos we could possibly want. We left out from our hotel in Vegas at 7:00am, stopped on the way to Grand Canyon to look/learn about Joshua Tree National Forest, and then went on to the GC. The flexibility of making stops when and where we wanted, and staying longer or shorter times in certain places based on our level of interest made it perfect. The private tour was more expensive, but it was worth every penny. They actually were wanting to listen and learn, because Jimmy made it so interesting. Our children are 10 (son) and 14 (daughter). He had knowledge about everything from Vegas history, to Grand Canyon facts, to Hoover Dam history and everything in between. Jimmy Vegas was the best tour guide anyone could ever want. We just got back from a private tour with Detours.
